Road Trippin' to Urbanscapes with The Bandwagon

ESTIMATED

We’re sure you, as a music-loving Singaporean, have been immensely jealous of Malaysia for the past few years. With the inclusion of Future Music Festival and Good Vibes Festival, we’ve been busy standing across the causeway with our arms folded and our faces pouting as our Malaysian friends got to experience bands like Franz Ferdinand, Tegan & Sara, Yuna, Sigur Ros and countless talented Malaysian bands in a vivid, fun-filled festival setting since 2012. Whatever reason you had for missing those instalments, we may have an easier option for you.

Proudly presenting THE BANDWAGON, our official cross-country ride to Urbanscapes 2014. Forget about spending days trying to settle cheap accommodation and figuring your way around the mountainous terrains of Genting. We have spent the last few months devising the most effective and, most importantly, fun way for our fellow Singaporeans to travel to Urbanscapes with ease. A collaborative project with Tourism Malaysia, we aim to make your festival experience a great and memorable one.

Held at the Resorts World Genting this year, Urbanscapes is one of the longest-running art festivals in Malaysia. Initially founded with the aim to bring together Malaysian creative communities from the fields of music, the arts, design, film and other creative disciplines, the festival has now grown to include the best from around the region and the world too. This year, they will be continuing their tradition of exciting line-ups even though the full one has yet to be announced. Indie rock group Local Natives and Australian multi-instrumentalist Kimbra have been leading the pack so far, along with alt-rock band The Lemonheads, Australian psych-pop trio Jagwar Ma, Malaysian folk troupe The Cotton Field Scarecrowes and Singapore’s very own Cashew Chemists, who played at our The Music Market 2014. The community-centric festival is built on the belief that great things happen when people come together - starting from The Bandwagon.

MORE ON THE BANDWAGON

We’ve managed to find a way to combine all necessities (and more!) in a reasonably-priced package that won’t break the bank. With just one ticket, return transport between Singapore-Genting and Genting-Festival Grounds are all covered. Hotel rooms are settled, along with (of course) the festival passes. As a cherry on top of this sweet, sweet sundae, there will be an express queue just for you to enter the festival grounds! There’s definitely less space for stress and more capacity to have fun.

Of course, we at Bandwagon love fun road trips and we have a special itinerary prepared just for you! In case you haven’t been keeping up with the program lately, you know the Bandwagon experience is never complete without live music. We have an exclusive line-up of some of Singapore's freshest acts performing on our bus, where you’ll catch them at their most intimate outside of a cosy cafe. The bus line-up ranges from the acoustic stylings of Gentle Bones and Inch Chua, indie-pop group Pleasantry and electronic duo .gif

All the pre-festival festivities will be hosted by the life of the party: the emcees! We’ve personally picked four dynamic personalities who would be your hosts throughout the journey. A lot of jokes will be cracked and they definitely know their music as well. We have an array of activities and games, specifically designed to let you mingle with like-minded music fans on board without having to deal with the usual anxiety that comes with socialising. It’ll be fun, we promise!

If you do the math, that only means SG$234.50 per person for everything: hotel accommodation, passes to the festival and a bus trip complete with fun activities and exclusive live on-board performances. GENTLE BONES

Fresh off a very successful EP launch that saw him sell out the music venue TAB, Gentle Bones has been riding high on a wave of critical adoration and strong interest from the general public since then with his earnest folk anthems laced with pop hooks and thoughtful lyricism.

The inventive electronic duo was recently announced as an act, out of two chosen Singaporean acts, on Laneway Festival's esteemed 2015 line-up. With their lush, dense soundscapes and vocalist weish's captivating range, the duo are destined for big things as they prepare new material.

INCH CHUA

With tours spanning the US and a recently-published book on her back, Inch Chua has been keeping herself busy but she will be coming along on The Bandwagon, with a set that contains a heady mix of surprising beats and honestly crafted indie-rock melodies.

PLEASANTRY

Having released an EP recently with yet another successful launch show at The Esplanade, Pleasantry have since refined their dream-pop foundation with rich instrumentation and poetic lyricism, resulting in a stronger sound that has seen them become a band confident in their own skin.
