LUSH99.5 & Rdio to Celebrate SG50 In Their Own Way: 50 Songs in 50 Days

ESTIMATED

Haven’t we all wished to hear more of our favourite Singaporean acts playing on the radio?

We know, our dearest Lush 99.5FM has already pulled off the All Local, All Day feat last year, the first time a radio station in Singapore has played all local music for a full 24 hours. We can already look forward to it again this year, but this time, they’ve announced a new and exciting lead-up to the event.

Starting June 1st, Lush 99.5FM and music streaming service Rdio will be showcasing a song a day for 50 days, all of course by local artists. “Each song will be released during the weekdays leading up to our historical All Local All Day takeover, which will happen on the 8th and 9th of August,” says Vanessa Fernandez, Assistant Programme Director of Lush 99.5FM.

BANDWAGON TV

Titled 50 Songs in 50 Days, they’ll be presenting an assortment of 25 artists, each performing two songs to be aired on Lush 99.5FM with an accompanying video on YouTube.

Among the names are anthemic indie rock band Take Two, recent Universal Music signee Gentle Bones, post-hardcore extraordinaires Caracal, promising jazz-funk group The Steve McQueens and Lush 99.5FM's own Vandetta

Many of these artists are already breaking through to the international community, with Pleasantry returning from their recent North American tour, The Steve McQueens opening for jazz greats Incognito at the famous O2 Arena in London (coming a long way from the first time we interviewed them), and Caracal set to play Japanese festival Summer Sonic this year alongside many big international acts.

With such a remarkable year so far, this new Lush 99.5 and Rdio project fits right in, highlighting emerging talent and spreading the gospel of well-made Singaporean music.

On this new-found partnership between Lush 99.5FM and Rdio Asia, Kurt Loy, Marketing Manager of Rdio Asia explains, “One of the greatest things about music is how it connects people together. This sense of community is one of the things we've built Rdio around, and it is one of the things that will continue to differentiate Rdio from other music streaming services. And the most powerful way to do this is through people you trust. '50 Songs In 50 Days' is the perfect musical showcase between Rdio & Lush99.5FM to celebrate originality, collaboration and local talents."

Among those covering international artists, there will be Gentle Bones playing Ed Sheeran’s “Drunk" along with The Steve McQueens doing a soulful “Wonderwall” by Oasis.

We can’t wait to see how the featured artists will be changing up these long-familiar tracks, and which of our favourite songs (either originals or covers) will be played.

So hold your noses for just another week, and listen out for the tracks on Lush 99.5FM, or subscribe to Lush995TV on YouTube for the artists’ special performances at Rdio studios.

Lush 99.5FM also recently launched a series of monthly events titled Kaleidoscope, with local and international acts performing side by side. The inaugural edition will feature veteran DJ Reiki with 50 Songs in 50 Days artists .gif.
