Everything Is Illuminated: Lit Up 2014

ESTIMATED

Multidisciplinary festival Lit Up is back for its sixth edition this year, and true to its nature, it will be the arts festival that crosses boundaries. Setting up camp at Aliwal Arts Centre, the festival will stretch from 26-28 September and each day holds something noteworthy for you. Lit Up's three-day programme is packed with performances, talks, workshops, courtyard happenings and a flea market on Sunday where you can peruse through wares, accessories, art and vinyl.

And diverse is exactly what this festival is. “Lit Up’s multi-disciplinary nature makes it inclusive and accessible. Artistically, the interpretive ideas on our theme that have surfaced to date are incredibly exciting. This year’s festival also features a guest mime troupe from Bali and its rendition of Romeo and Juliet entitled, ‘Jayaprana and Layonsari’. With Lit Up, we’re crossing boundaries in more ways than one,” said Marc Nair, poet/photographer and Artistic Director of Lit Up.

Some of the instalments you can see at Lit Up is the exciting Market of Experiences (MOE), a cross-border, multi-experiential market that engages with the public in interaction and participation through their senses. What does this entail exactly one might ask? We'll tell you that in past installations, the MOE has featured a display of scents, a movable library, and bespoke writing. If you're looking for something to takeaway, there will be a lot of talks, workshops, and even dialogue sessions with artists across different disciplines so sit in and take notes!

On the music front, Lit Up will be collaborating with online fashion forward retailer Zalora for a two-part special, Zalora Nights. Kicking off on 27 September, the line-up for Zalora Nights features a bevy of local talents across all genres such as Seyra, MONSTER CAT, The Sets Band, Fungki Munkees, Instigator Afrobeat Orchestra, The Good Life Project. Not only will some of Singapore's finest musicians be taking the stage, the event will also feature spoken word poetry troupe Party Action People and five-woman spoken word collective Sekaliwags.

More than just a platform for both emerging and established artists to showcase and perform their works, Lit Up is also the playground for the creatively inclined. Come down to get to know the local community of artists and get inspired yourself!
